AXIS Arts will be holding a workshop reading and feedback session for “Shards”, a piece by Artistic Director and a future fully-produced project for the company (Director TBC).

 

Shards is set entirely in a flat shared by three friends in their late-20’s. As the play unfolds, suppressed resentments bubble to the surface, identities are reclaimed and memories are questioned.

 

This is Jason Warren’s first full-length non-immersive play for adults, and is earmarked for production by a yet-to-be announced director. Whilst participation in this workshop read doesn’t in any way guarantee casting in the production next year, we will obviously take what we’ve seen into account. The workshop will be lead by Associate Director Will Davis, with Jason in attendance to take notes and listen to feedback.

 

Please note that for the full production of the play, actors will be required to have at least moderate ability with electric guitar.

 

The piece is a two-act three-hander. Date and location will be worked out with the group when we have our participants, but the commitment is likely to be around three hours.

For this Lab, we’re looking for six actors (two for each role). Artists participating in the read will have a number of different responsibilities:

 

* Reading one act for the character they’re assigned

* Observing with audience/critical eyes & ears when their counterpart is reading the character

* Giving critical feedback at the end of the reading, along with suggestions for improvement and insight on what they liked

 

This is for actors who have a real interest in being involved in the development of new writing; it’s not simply a script read. Your thoughts and opinions afterwards are just as important as your reading abilities, and honest feedback will be gratefully received.

 

Selected actors will be required to read the script before attending.

 

The roles up for grabs are:

 

ROBERT - Mid-Late 20’s, a repressed & reserved relic of his aggressive teenaged self. Intelligent and articulate.

EDWARD - Mid-Late 20’s, borderline sociopath to the outside world but with a deep-rooted moral code and loyalty to his friends

LAURA - Mid-Late 20’s, strong-willed and sexually confident, struggling with her need to be needed
